KUCHING, May 15 - Tan Sri William Mawan a surprise today when he announces resignation as President of Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP), effective immediately and had joined the new party known as Prti Labour Sarawak hus (Core).
Also following in the footsteps of William is the former secretary general of the Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh and eight members of the two parties involved ie each five SPDP, SUPP three and a Sarawak Workers Party (SWP).
He said his intention to appoint the membership number of members in respect of entry Sylvester, Peter Nansian, Rosey and Paulus was to strengthen the party as ever and he is hoping it will strengthen the Barisan Nasional (BN) again.
Decisions can not be stopped just like a captain leaving the ship but I was a victim of circumstances thrown out of the ship for trying to do the proper action.
Of course I love SPDP to have joined the party since November 2002 but the steps to stop this is the best action for the welfare of the BN, "he said in a press conference at the press center of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sarawak, Petra Jaya here today.
Meanwhile, Soon Koh said the move was the best method for resolving the long-standing crisis hus in SUPP to undermine the credibility of the BN in Sarawak as a whole.
He said the previous BN leaders have expressed their desire to save the party by introducing formula supp Peace Plans 50-50 sharing a membership with the Central hus Working Committee (CWC).
However, this formula is not known to 'party' against me in SUPP and I felt there was no value in people's sincerity. So I have to continue in another way, that is, join the core, "he said.
