How much is a thousand round corners?
During the last weeks we labbat a new part with iOS7 which is Apple's next generation operating system for iPhone location / iPad. It's fascinating how a new design standard location can do to an entire generation of products suddenly feels outdated.
When Booli.se launched in 2008 was the web 2.0 that set the standard and it meant round corners, shadows and special effects. Compared to previous generation design, it was a great leap forward. We swallowed location it and sinker.
The problem was that in order to deliver a design with all the visual effects had we (and many of us) move resources from development of new functionality to the trimming surface. It quickly became very costly. Not mainly location because we threw lots of money on design but the implementation of it was painfully time consuming and product development suffered.
In the end we decided to go our own way and lowering the level of ambition. There was simply too much importance left to build to get stuck in an endless implemenetation of 1000 round corners. We decided to shift our focus from the polishing surface to develop location functionality, considered flows and performance. It was one of the best decisions we have made.
Focus requires the courage to say no. We will never be stylish location because you "should" location be. We keep our design simple location and uncluttered and free up resources to develop services that drive the housing market forward.
Some of you may have wondered what that creates Booli.se? What people are behind the site and what we do all day? One of the cornerstones of our work is quality. We want it to be quick and easy to search Booli and that you should location get the correct results when searching. Gabriella is [...]
Every day captures our systems up just over a hundred thousand items that are out on the market. For us in the development department should not have to look at every single one of them manually, location so we try to attend as much of the data processing as possible automatically. Today we have a variety of software that sorts the items and that clears away all [...]
Buy a cake for yourself and submit the resignation, for now, we want to Booli become even more!
