SINGAPORE (Dow Jones) - The Moodys Investors Service downgraded one notch the rating of the four largest banks in New Zealand, to Aa3 from Aa2, announced today the company. The move was expected, as the banks were under review for possible downgrade since February and evaluations of parent banks in Australia had already been cut by one notch on 18 May. Banks affected by degradation are ANZ National Bank Ltd., ASB Bank Ltd., Bank of New Zealand and Westpac New Zealand Ltd. The New Zealand dollar fell to U.S. $ 0.8163 after the announcement but then recovered to 0.8186 U.S. dollars, higher than it was before the announcement of Moodys. The firm also announced that the outlook for banks is now stable.
